I use Uber transport a lot but gets more and more frustrated with them. I hate the surge charges as it makes their service totally unreliable. A driver can cancel for any reason and they will charge you $10. You can query it and they will refund it immediately but the credit sits on the app and not in your bank account. So, that particular day, you have to walk in high heels getting blisters because the app would not let you drive unless you have cleared the debt. They offer riders very low fares to get more riders on board and at the same time increase their cut which they take from the drivers. I give most drivers five stars as I know that their licences could be cancelled overnight if they make a mistake, no mercy, and they lose all income while their families are crying. From my perspective, Uber is a technology company exploiting people to profit huge. While innovation is important, we need people companies who use technology to provide a better service. Most of Uber’s money goes to Silicon Valley while very little stays in New Zealand. They use ice cream and other promotions as a smokescreen to show their people care while I overheard them saying to a driver who complained about making less money being used as a promotion driver: “You don’t have to do it is you don’t want to.” – it is all about Uber. I heard even their employees complaining about being treated like machines. Uber is a movement trying to infiltrate and dominate the New Zealand economy and world order. They get away with operating against all rules palling up with self-interested politicians to slip legislation through Parliament that benefits them but kills our nation. Uber does not give a dime: they have to be stopped – period.
