I am not a churchgoer; but as it is Easter, I have been contemplating how Jesus’ mother must have felt at his crucifixion: her heart pierced. It is 2017 now and we live in a world where the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer. I have been working for the past seven years to change this because there is a huge awareness that society desperately needs to change, but, not many people want to be the change. Having belonged to the top 20% previously and nowadays finding myself among the bottom 80% leaves me with having to recover from a pierced heart. Children, as they grow older, get tired when parents struggle to get on their feet. Young adults still believe that the world can be perfect and so they choose who and what can help them paint a perfect picture. Millennials, in particular, is influenced by the elite who believe that those who struggle are obviously bad people. Today, I surrender my pierced heart to Jesus: he knew that the woman who discreetly gave her last penny, gave more than the Pharisees who were showing off and giving lots but a fraction of their wealth. Happy Easter, wishing you new beginnings!
